Earlier, in early September, NHL announced that NHL players were allowed to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics. Today, Rene fassel, President of the International Hockey Federation, revealed that although the IOC still refuses to bear the corresponding expenses of NHL players participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics, the generous Beijing East Olympic Organizing Committee will bear all the expenses of NHL players participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Fassel praised the generosity of BOCOG and expressed helplessness about the tough attitude of the IOC. Fasser said: “IOC President Bach took a tough stand. The IOC refused to pay for NHL’s participation in the Olympic Games. In the past, the IOC paid these expenses when Samaranch and Rogge were presidents. We are lucky that now this part of the expenses are all borne by BOCOG. China also pays NHL players’ travel to the Olympic Games and their insurance expenses.”
In 2018, NHL players did not participate in the Pingchang Winter Olympic Games because the IOC refused to pay the fees for NHL players to participate in the Pingchang Winter Olympic Games, and the Pingchang Olympic Organizing Committee also refused to pay these fees.
